Most digital images still start out from traditional media. In fact, traditional photography was the one who gave birth to digital photography. Therefore, the two are parallel to each other. Aside from inheriting the features of traditional photography, digital photography only improved the ability to produce the exact desired image.
The argument that comes out from the debate between digital and traditional photography is that the produced image in traditional photography is the most accurate and realistic image that one can have. Traditional photographs don?t lie because unlike in digital photography, it can never be changed or manipulated. In digital photography, images can be altered according to the photographer?s context in different ways easily and more artistically.
A possible problem with digital photographs is their quality because they fade rather quickly. Though improvements are being done, few digital images will have the longevity of traditional photographs. A counter-argument, however, is that digital photos can be easily reproduced when necessary but it?s only for a short-term basis. Once needed, there is no assurance that computers will be able to access them for future use.
Another rarely explored issue is the immediacy of digital photography. Immediate results are sometimes not much productive. Your worst photos wouldn't be so bad, but your best images wouldn't be much better. While immediate results might be beneficial to a commercial photographer, in most cases, it becomes a distraction from photography.
Digital photography offers more options for creativity. To consider it as more efficient, faster and cheaper is another issue. Traditional photography, on the other hand, is still an easy and convenient way to make and store high-resolution images. Generally, traditional photographs still contain a lot of image information. However, this is the most important consideration - photography will become more creative and effective if the end product is of the best quality.
Digital and traditional photography are complimentary arts. They have their respective places in the lives of amateur and professional photographers. The acquired skills in doing traditional photography will definitely be passed on to the digital world. The ability to modify an image to enhance it is absolutely a plus. However, digital photography could also be very time consuming, especially when we consider the many possibilities of digital manipulation. More so, there is an air of intrigue that still surrounds us in going to the darkroom to produce the print that you envisioned in your mind.
The world of photography has a room for both the digital photography and the traditional photography. There are only numerous aspects revolving around the use of digital photography versus traditional photography. After all, digital photography is just another tool of modernization showing the advancement of photography in an ever-changing world. Let?s just hope that digital and traditional photographers can make the best out of both worlds to produce the best work that everyone would love to have. |

6 Ways To Boost Your Creativity |
RSS 2.0 |
1. Listen to classical music. These classical musicians had a lot of creativity flowing through their veins at that time so if that doesn't make you more creative, you should probably see your doctor. Kidding. Or you could also try walking through museums with classic paintings and sculptures everywhere.
2. Add a hint of drama. These musicians, painters and sculptors felt a lot going on inside their heads so this is most likely another factor we shouldn?t brush aside. Focus on something you feel strongly about. It can be anything or anyone. Something you can focus on and can trigger a burst of images flashing through your head. It can be something positive or negative but the bottom line is for you to put something that has a statement on paper, on the net or wherever you want to be on.
3. Carry a small notebook and a pen with you. That way, you can quickly note down ideas that just suddenly occur to you. Then once in awhile get back to your notes. You?ll soon realize that most of it, probably like 95%, is not really that creative. But that's normal. It?s the 10% creative ideas that matter.
4. Read more books. This will boost your imagination. Try reading a lot of Harry Potter movies. These are colorful even in text. And since the story takes place in a very supernatural environment, then your imagination while reading the book is limitless.
5. If you have a certain idea in mind, or certain ideas that you just want to put together, write these down in a sheet of paper. Then try to strike a relation between the ideas. If they?re too farfetched, even an oddly-fitting idea should still work. It is, after all, the creativity we?re after and not that much of a realistic sense we?re looking for. If you have a hard time, try sketching them on a paper, try different variations of the idea. Then try to strike a relation between the ideas again. If you get tired of this, rest awhile, go to sleep, watch an animated movie (specially the really modern ones like Polar Express) and then go back to your idea collage.
6. Always try to get into a conversation about a what-if world. What if gravity didn?t exist, what if trees were ice cream or anything at all. Free your mind of the bounds set by our too-serious, too-logical world. Try to be a child again and you?ll see how ideas are just a dime a dozen out there just waiting to be grabbed. |
