"(but we have so much more to do)" Indeed; however, let's remember that China is still pulling their way out of the doldrums. Moreover, prejudice and/or bias in China is not only confined to the color of one's skin. In a way it's quite amazing that such primitive, seemingly uneducated attitudes stil... Blatant Racial Discrimination Tue, 21 Oct 2008 17:19:00 +0200
I am BLACK. And PROUD. And UNAPOLOGETIC. I am also highly efficient, effective, qualified and experienced and a native English speaker. Yesterday, I was turned down for a teaching job here in China because, and ONLY because, I am BLACK. "The schools only want whites", I was told. "...can't change th... Re: Beware Chicago language school, Shenyang Tue, 21 Oct 2008 09:52:00 +0200
John, I'm confused - I've never taught in Shenyang, and I don't think my grammar is too bad in my post. Never mind. Probably you're referring to sb else's illiterate post that was subsequently deleted by the board, or by the poster himself. Sadly some of the posts are illiterate, as are about 25% of... To leave before your contract is up would not be wise. You'd probably miss out on at least two weeks' salary, not to mention travel allowance money for the Spring Festival holiday and/or air fare reimbursement (or part payment). Furthermore, you'd have great difficulty getting through airport custom... Permalink: http://www.eslteachersboard.com/cgi-bin/forum/index.pl?read=50589
Re: "Canadian Racism toward Americans" Tue, 21 Oct 2008 03:55:00 +0200
Ok folks, I will admit to an undisclosed motive for continuing this discussion. I am a public speakiing coach for Chinese students, and in recent trial runs a few judges have asked contestants what the election of Obama means to the U.S. This, to me, is a totally unfair question to ask a Chinese mid... Release letter/China Mon, 20 Oct 2008 23:43:00 +0200
I'm presently teaching at a school I'm not particularly happy with, to keep things succinct. I'm determined, however, to hang in there and make it to the end of my contract, which should be in February, '09. My primary motivation is to get a "release letter" so I won't have to go all the way home to... Permalink: http://www.eslteachersboard.com/cgi-bin/forum/index.pl?read=50585
Teaching is... Mon, 20 Oct 2008 22:03:00 +0200
Hi, fellow teachers, After another exhausting, yet tiring week of teaching, I thought that it would be good if we shared our thoughts on being teachers, as ours is a very satisfying, and worthwhile, yet often, criticized profession. I hope that many of you will contribute. I'll start the ball rollin... Permalink: http://www.eslteachersboard.com/cgi-bin/forum/index.pl?read=50583
