Get your streamers ready. Enqutatash, the Ethiopian New Year, arrives September 11; it will be the year 2001 in the Orthodox calendar. Now's your chance to get hooked--like me--on one of the coolest, most beguiling, and most unlikely musical revivals in years.

Finding a successor for Celine Dion posed quite a challenge for Caesars Palace...until Bette Midler agreed to take up the mantle for a two-year stint. The Divine Miss M. tells Conde Nast Traveler how she blisses out in her new home.

Sunflowers and Stone Hamlets
Thu, 04 Sep 2008 14:23:45 -0400
Our packs were heavy and the sun was bright as we stumbled off a train in the Lot River Valley of Southwest France. This was to be the first of the voluntourism efforts we had planned for the coming months, and we looked around curiously for our WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) host.

Luxor: Oberoi Zahra Luxury Nile Cruiser
Thu, 04 Sep 2008 12:00:00 -0400
This sleek five-deck Oberoi Zahra--with a spa and fewer than half the number of cabins usually found on Nile cruisers of its size--has raised the bar of luxury for the river and for Egypt.

Easing Your Laptop Through Airport Screening
Thu, 04 Sep 2008 09:00:00 -0400
The TSA has recently relaxed its procedures enough to allow laptops to remain tucked safely inside certain types of bags through the airport screening process. I want one of those bags.

Valencia: Disco City
Wed, 03 Sep 2008 16:00:00 -0400
Disco City is a midsize bar and dance club, a simple black-on-black space with a wall of mirrors lining a dance floor jammed with twenty- to thirtysomethings grooving to old-school funk, soul, and R&B.

My Favorite Boston Stretch
Wed, 03 Sep 2008 14:00:00 -0400
Within my favorite neighborhood in one of my favorite cities (Boston), I recently found my favorite two-block radius. My epiphany came, as epiphanies often do, over breakfast. I was sitting outside the South End Buttery drinking my coffee and watching the parade of dogs and their owners...

Today, our first of four Las Vegas videos. We had the pleasure of sampling from a number of Las Vegas eateries and we were impressed with the settings, the service, and the food. Don't believe us? You may have to visit to discover for yourself.

UPDATE: American Southwest Iconic Itinerary
Wed, 03 Sep 2008 01:32:00 -0400
The last issue of Conde Nast Traveler includes the Iconic Itinerary that I wrote of the American Southwest. On Day 2, I recommend that readers hike the Devils Garden Trail in Arches National Park. However, as of early August, much of that trail has been closed because of the collapse of Wall Arch.
